WAR hero Karl Hinett today vowed to dedicate his life to raising money for charity – and revealed plans to conquer Mount Kilimanjaro and another ultra marathon.

The 26-year-old, who learned to walk again after an armoured vehicle he was in was bombed in Iraq in 2005, said he wanted to continue to support injured comrades.

Karl, from Tipton, went on to complete 100 marathons in two years, and attempted to climb Mount Everest.

He has raised £30,000 for charity and now plans to take part in a 150-mile jungle marathon in Vietnam and climb Mount Kilimanjaro in October.

Karl, whose partner is 25-year-old Beth Platts, said today: "This is what I plan to do now, to continue to go on fundraising and challenging myself as much as I can to raise money.

"As long as my legs will carry me, and I have the support of my girlfriend, I will continue."

As a private with the Staffordshire Regiment, he suffered severe burns to his hands, legs, arms and face in the bombing, his injuries so bad he had to painstakingly learn to walk again.

But he battled back from near tragedy to compete in dozens of gruelling challenges.

On New Year's Day 2011 he started his marathon challenge to raise cash for Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where he was nursed back to health.

And after travelling the world to complete his challenge, he finished the last gruelling 26.2 mile run in Liverpool on New Year's Eve last year.

"I've been taking it easy during January, but I have a few things planned this year," he said.
