Shelfield Academy's joy at transformation

The second phase of a multi-million pound transformation of a Walsall secondary school has been completed as the full scheme enters the final stage.

The £23 million redevelopment of is creating modern 21st century facilities at the site in Broad Way. The second phase which includes ICT, theatre, music and drama departments has been going on for the last nine months and was finished over the summer ahead of the new school year.

The third phase with new business and modern languages blocks is due for completion within six weeks so it will be ready after half-term. Old buildings will be demolished creating parking and play facilities.

Principal Bernard Dickenson said they were delighted with the new-look school. "The youngsters have come in and gone 'wow,' it is fantastic and they absolutely love it. It provides them with state-of-the-art facilities," he said.
