A landmark former pub in Smethwick will be turned into a restaurant, takeaway and 10 apartments under new plans submitted to Sandwell Council.

Developers want to revamp the site of the former New Talbot on Hagley Road in Smethwick, which lies right on the border with Birmingham.

The pub, which dates back more than 100 years, has been closed for around six years.

Now Edgbaston-based Gill Developments Ltd has submitted a planning application to Sandwell Council requesting permission for the conversion of the ground floor to a restaurant, a separate unit for hot and cold takeaway and first and second floor extension to create 10 apartments.

A total of 15 new car parking spaces would also be created.

Documents submitted for the scheme by Lapworth Architects Ltd who have been commissioned by Gill Development Ltd to design the new restaurant and apartments, state that, if approved, the restaurant would house 82 people.
