Vandals attacked a primary school in Walsall, leaving behind a £10,000 repair bill and hundreds of devastated children.

Youngsters at Bentley West Primary School, which has been repeatedly targeted by yobs, today issued a heartfelt plea for the attacks to stop.

The school, in Monmouth Road, Bentley, was broken into over the weekend. Thieves stole childrens' tools from a newly-created tool shed for reception pupils, along with a six seater buggy from the neighbouring Bentley West Children's Centre, where they also attempted to start a fire.

Chickens which the children had helped hatch were also let loose and were running around the school grounds when staff arrived at the premises work on Monday.

Laura Broomhall, acting headteacher, said: "We just want it to stop now. Whoever did this should come in and look at the childrens' faces and see just how much their actions have upset them."

West Midlands Police yesterday arrested five boys were arrested on Monday in connection with the incident.

Three boys, two aged 14 and one aged 15, have been charged with burglary and are due to appear at Walsall Youth Court next month. Two 15-year-old boys have been released without charge.
