Hollywood arrives in Black Country

Top film stars Jacqueline Bisset, John Goodman and Anthony Head brought a touch of Hollywood glamour to Dudley while filming a new period drama.

They were at the Black Country Living Museum filming scenes for Dancing On The Edge, a five-part drama series about a jazz band in the 1930s.

Around 150 cast, crew and extras have been on the Tipton Road site throughout this week, often filming late into the night. The series, about black jazz musicians rubbing shoulders with high society, is written and directed by renowned playwright Stephen Poliakoff.

The series will also be filming at Birmingham's Old Grand Ballroom, the Severn Valley, and Ragley Hall near Alcester.

Head, who recently appeared as Sir Geoffrey Howe in the acclaimed film about Margaret Thatcher, The Iron Lady, said it was going to be a superb series.

"It's a page-turner and it's set in an extraordinary period when everything was about hope," he said.

Also playing starring roles were American film star John Goodman, who made his name in Roseanne, and recently appeared in the smash-hit black-and-white film The Artist, and Jacqueline Bisset, once described as "The most beautiful actress of all time."

She described the visit to the museum as 'good fun'.

A number of extras from the West Midlands will also appear in the series.
