Royal Mail is taking on thousands of extra postal workers in the Midlands to deliver an expected 363 million items of mail across the region during the Christmas period.
An extra 3,010 workers are being taken on in the region to cope with the demand, while its 3,300-strong fleet of vans will be boosted by an extra 512 vehicles. The extra staff will work around the clock with the company's 18,000 postal workers to collect, sort and deliver festive cards and gifts.
Paul Jobling, regional operations director for Royal Mail, which has a main sorting office at Sun Street in Wolverhampton, said: "This is the busiest time of year for Royal Mail in the Midlands area. Our postmen and women, as well as the extra seasonal staff we have taken on, will be working to collect, sort and deliver the Christmas mailbag to every community served by our seven mail centres."
