A father has died after being floored by a single punch as his girlfriend and 10-year-old daughter looked on in a Dudley street.

Marcus Hutton, aged 30, of Dudley, was critically injured after becoming involved in an argument outside Priory Wines, in Priory Road, at 4.20pm on Saturday.

He was taken to Russells Hall Hospital in a critical condition and placed on a life support machine but died last night.

Mr Hutton is believed to have been making his way to his parents' house to help with some DIY when the attack took place. Friends suggested the tragedy happened after derogatory remarks were made about Mr Hutton's girlfriend.

Police today would not give any more details about the incident, but said they had charged a man with manslaughter last night.

Relatives in Priory Road today were too distressed to speak today, but one resident said: "I did not really know the victim that well, just passed him in the street now and then. He always seemed nice enough."

Floral tributes were left outside Priory Wines today.

One read: "To an old friend RIP mate, you'll be missed, Den," while another read: "Saddened by the news what you're gone!"

While friend John Racer, said: "rest in peace Marcus Hutton you were like a brother to us we'll all miss you more than you'll ever know god bless you mate"

Delroy Hines, aged 36, of Redwood Avenue, Gornal, appeared before Dudley Magistrates Court today charged with manslaughter.

He was remanded in custody and committed to Wolverhampton Crown Court on July 21.
