Drivers are being reminded that a busy Wolverhampton street will be closed for almost two months from next week.

Darlington Street in the city centre will be closed from its junction with Chapel Ash traffic island to Waterloo Road from Thursday, until the end of August.

It is to allow sewage pipes to be moved by Severn Trent Water in preparation for a new courthouse on the site of the Fold Street car park that may not be built for years.

Cabinet member for regeneration, Councillor Paddy Bradley, said: "This is a busy street and we would advise motorists to allow extra time for their journeys.

"Fortunately the disruption will be temporary, however it is unavoidable and we would ask motorists and the public to be patient while it takes place."

As a result of the closure buses diverted due to the construction of the £22.5m bus station in Pipers Row will have to be re-routed for the third time since April.

Bus stops in Darlington Street will also be temporarily relocated along Waterloo Road in the area currently used for pay and display parking.

The city council will temporarily suspend pay and display parking in Waterloo Road and a bus stop clearway will be introduced to prevent parking in the suspended bays.
