A bus company serving parts of the Black Country and Staffordshire will cease to operate from Friday after the Transport Tribunal Service rejected an appeal by Warstone Motors, trading as Green Bus Service, based in Great Wyrley.

The firm had been appealing a decision by the Traffic Commission in June to revoke its licence for a year over a series of safety faults including MoT failures, four expired tax discs, loose wheel nuts, leaking fuel gauges and a bald tyre. The decision means the firm has to cease trading before Saturday.

One of the company's drivers said he and colleagues, some of whom had given 20 years' service, found out on Monday when they were handed a notice to place on their vehicles to inform passengers.

The driver, who asked not to be named, said: "The manager Ben Brown stuck a notice on the bus saying it was terminating on Friday.

"All along, he and the owner Graham Martin have denied the rumours that it would be finishing."

Mr Brown refused to comment, while Mr Martin was unavailable.

Arriva West Midlands will be taking over some of the routes. Its spokesman Keith Myatt said: "We are revising our number 69 service and will also be having a route 68 every 30 minutes from Monday.

"The 69 will run daily between Cannock, Great Wyrley, Landywood, Essington through New Invention, Wednesfield, past New Cross and into Wolverhampton.

"The 68 will run between Cannock, Great Wyrley, Landywood and Essington then Long Knowle estate and back in line with the 69 at Wednesfield, New Cross and Wolverhampton. The estate gains a Saturday service as Green Bus Service only ran Monday to Friday and the service is doubled form hourly to half-hourly.

"In addition, the 76 Stafford to Wolverhampton service will be diverted via Brewood during morning and afternoon peak times."
