Something borrowed, something burned!

It may be a far cry from your traditional twee wedding photographs, but these images are certainly one for the album.

As the bride is the boss of a Black Country foundry, you could be forgiven for thinking she decided to wear her gown for work.

However, Gill Carswell did not wear her wedding dress for work – slipping it on for an alternative wedding photoshoot. Gill, aged 38, of Cannock, is one of a number of brides trashing wedding dresses after marrying.

Instead of letting the gown gather dust, many are deciding to wear it one more time for a quirky photo session known as 'Trash the Dress'. The trend started in America, but has become popular with wedding photographers and brides here. Some dirty the dress for recleaning – perhaps by rolling in a field of mud or wading through a river – while others, including Gill, totally trash it.

Gill, who married Rob, 41, on Christmas Eve, decided the Sime Foundry which she runs in Stafford Street, Wednesbury would be the perfect setting for alternative images.

"It's a place which is close to my heart. My dad ran it until I took over when he retired. I've grown up with the business – and Rob works here too, so it seemed the perfect special place to take the pictures," said the mother-of-two.
