Three Cooks: 250 jobs to go
Workers across the West Midlands are waiting to see if they will be hit by the closure of 37 shops by crisis-hit High Street bakery Three Cooks.
Tenon Recovery, the receivers handling the company's administration, said all the shops earmarked for closure were not making a profit and although 'regrettable' it was the only way forward.
The remaining 123 bakeries, employing around 900 staff, have been sold to Cooks the Bakery which will continue to operate them under the Three Cooks name.
Staff at branches across the West Midlands were today waiting to discover if they are on the hitlist.
The Tenon Group has said it is not currently releasing details of the affected stores.
Three Cooks has around a dozen shops across the region including Wolverhampton, Walsall, West Bromwich, Dudley, Stourbridge, Great Wyrley, Stafford, Lichfield and Kidderminster.
Joint administrators Trevor Binyon and Steve Parker said Three Cooks had run into financial difficulties because of a fall in high street trade.
They said: "Whilst we regret having to close a number of the company's under-performing stores, we were absolutely delighted to have managed to preserve the remaining outlets.
"Some 900 jobs were saved and the business will continue to operate under the Three Cooks name."
Some shops had already been told their future was secure including branches in Aldridge, Stafford and Lichfield, but others are in the dark.
Today, Three Cooks in Upper Green Tettenhall, said it would remain open as did the branch in Bargate Drive, Whitmore Reans and Cannock Road near The Scotlands.
Staff at the Birches Bridge store in Codsall refused to comment.
Among the shops to have closed are branches in West Bromwich, Wednesbury and Walsall.
