Seconds out for city boxing film

A boxing film set in the Black Country aims to bring to life the struggles of an aspiring pugilist.

“Jessie” tells the story of Jessie Bennett, a fighter making his way through the amateur boxing work, but who is blackmailed into boxing for a ruthless gangster.

Filmed at locations across Wolverhampton, the film is a gritty take on the struggles of someone fighting for his family.

Ross Heath stars as the character Jessie Bennett, as well as directing and producing the film with his production company partner Christopher Livermore.

The film captures the gritty reality of a man forced to fight for a gangster to protect his family

The 31-year-old said the inspiration for the film came from his late grandmother, who he said loved boxing and wrestling.

He said: “I use the character name Jessie Bennett and have made the film in her memory, which is a gritty gangster boxing film set in Wolverhampton."

The boxing scenes are being filmed at Bushbury Boxing Club, with production set to continue throughout 2021 before a February 2022 release.
