Cheslyn Hay Table Tennis Club, located at the back of Salem Church, was shortlisted in the Pride of Table Tennis Awards 2020.

The accolade celebrates and honours the efforts of volunteers, officials, coaches and others for their contributions over the last year.

John Quinn, club secretary, said he was “so proud” the club was shortlisted – but stressed it was down to the efforts of everyone at the club.

He said: “I’m so proud to be a part of this fantastic club. It’s the club volunteers and everyone who make it so successful – Andrew Beastall and Callum Squire do so much voluntary work for our club.

“We’ve also raised £22,000 for charity over the years and we’re a club who supports the community in every shape and form.

"We’re also proud to even be nominated when there’s lots of big clubs with 20 and 30 teams.

“I’m just so proud of being club secretary but I must stress there’s a lot of work done by everyone, including Andrew Beastall and Callum Squire – they’re unbelievable.

"It’s given us a boost and just to be nominated.”
