Wolverhampton fish and chip shop 'most popular of 2017'
Top quality ingredients are the secret behind the success of a Wolverhampton chippy named the city's finest.
Chip Stop in Springhill Lane, Penn, has won Most Popular Chip Shop of the Year 2017 in the Express & Star competition.
The chippy has been run by the Chander family for the last seven years.
John Chander, who works with his wife Surinder and son Nathan, said the family oversee every part of the business.
He said he was delighted with the takeaway's success – and believes the shop's use of 'top quality' ingredients is what makes their food irresistible to punters.
"We are very pleased to have been voted the winner by the Express & Star readers," said Mr Chander. "The customers have been delighted too and some have even brought us congratulatory cards."
Chippies were rated by the number of tokens handed in by readers, while there was also a mystery shopper element which saw the takeaway taste tested. The runner-up in Wolverhampton was Frydays in Long Knowle Lane, Wednesfield, while Majors in Church Street, Bilston, was third.
