The show, which is partly filmed at the Black Country Museum in Dudley, will begin filming in spring.

Steven Knight said scripts have recently been finalised.

The first two seasons of the BBC gangster drama came within a year of each other.

There was then a gap of a year and a half between season two and three.

A similar time gap hints at a spring 2018 release on the BBC.

The last series took four months to film and then three to edit, meaning fans could watch the upcoming instalments in October.

Peaky Blinds has become an international hit and inspired a fashion craze for 1920s haircuts and caps.
