Music and matchday in memory of Wombourne father Steven
A charity football match will be held next month to remember the life of a popular colleague, husband and son.
Friends and family will celebrate the memory of Steven Pugh whose life was tragically cut short by a rare disease.
Mr Pugh, aged 32, from Wombourne, died in January following a three year battle with multiple myeloma, a form of cancer.
The memorial event, which also includes an evening party, will take place on May 14, marking what would have been his 33rd birthday.
Mr Pugh's father, Graham, will also cycle from London to Paris later this year to further raise awareness of the condition.
David Handy, who has helped organise the charitable event in aid of Myeloma UK, said: "We hope to raise about £3,000 for the charity."
The Wombourne Club has donated their venue for free, whilst The Rollers, a top local covers band have also agreed to perform free of charge for the evening bash.
The football match, which has been sponsored by by construction company A&H Construction and Developments PLC, will take place on the fields of Westfield Primary School and Ounsdale High School, where Mr Pugh went to school.
Mr Handy said they had chosen the charity because it was funding a world-leading genetic research programme to discover and develop new "tailored" treatments for the illness.
He said: "The charity also funds a ground breaking clinical trial network that gives patients access to new life-extending drugs.
"It also provides resources for healthcare professionals so that diagnosis is improved, best practice is shared and patients receive the best possible treatment and care
"Myeloma UK receive no government funding and relies on voluntary donations and fundraising activities."
Companies wishing to donate items to a grand draw and charity auction, which will take place during the evening at The Wombourne Club, are asked to email davidhandy1983@gmail.com, call 07931 836284 or write to 22 Bird Street, Gornal, DY3 2LX.
