It's Hateful Ain't as Cineworld shuns Quentin Tarantino film

Wolverhampton's Cineworld Cinema will not be showing the new Quentin Tarantino blockbuster Hateful Eight because of a row between the chain and the film's distributor.

A disagreement between Entertainment Film, who distribute The Hateful Eight, and Cineworld means that it will not be shown in the city's Wednesfield Way multiplex.

The much-anticipated film is Tarantino's second Western and arrives in the UK with glowing reviews and three Golden Globe nominations.

A Cineworld spokesperson said: "We can confirm that Hateful Eight will not be shown at our cinemas. Unfortunately we were not able to reach an agreement with the movie's distributor."

The film will however be shown by Cineworld's two main rivals, the Odeon and Vue chains, as well as numerous independent cinemas. Cineworld operates around 100 sites and owns Picturehouse, which runs a further 23 cinemas.

The seeds of the dispute apparently lie in the decision by Entertainment Film to limit the film to being shown at only one venue in London's West End. And that decision is a direct result of Tarantino shooting his film on 70mm film, a stock that hasn't been used in decades.

Entertainment Film chose to show a 70mmm print of the film at The Odeon Leicester Square in the West End.

A spokesman for Entertainment Film said: "Cineworld had made us aware that they were very unhappy that The Hateful Eight had been booked into the Odeon Leicester Square for an exclusive 70mm Ultra Panavision presentation, and specifically that they would therefore not be able to play the film at their Picturehouse Central venue."
