Life's a Breeze as Ada turns 100
Five generations of the same family came together to help a great-great grandmother celebrate her 100th birthday.
Ada Breeze marked her milestone birthday with around 50 family members and friends on Tuesday at Sandon Hall in Stafford - the ancestral home of the Earls of Harrowby.
Mrs Breeze, of Stafford, rented a farm in Marston from the then Lord and Lady Harrowby after she married her late husband Sidney, who was a farmer, in 1935.
The couple were invited to the Harrowbys' golden wedding anniversary celebrations at Sandon Hall and would also visit there for tea parties. Mrs Breeze was born in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, and grew up in Seighford, near Stafford.
She met her husband at Seighford School and the couple were married at a church in the village after two years of becoming a couple.
Mrs Breeze, who has five children, seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, worked on the farm and was also a cook at John Wheeldon PrimarySchool, Stafford, for more than a decade. During her birthday celebrations, guests enjoyed wartime songs from 1940s-style singer Madeline Brown and afternoon tea. Old photographs of Stafford and Mrs Breeze's family were also shown on a projector.
Her eldest granddaughter Sue Langston, aged 51, of Crab Lane, Stafford, said: "There have been five generations of the family here.
"It is the first time ever that all of the family have been able to get together in the same room at the same time.
"We have also had family flying in from Cyprus," she added.
"The room has been full of everyone looking at the old photos. She had a beautiful cake and lots of flowers.
"She used to work on the farm and she was a cook at a local school. She taught us all to bake.
The mother-of-one added: "She's absolutely loved celebrating her birthday at Sandon Hall. She's always taken care of herself and she gives us all inspiration. We are all proud of her."
