D-Day darlings on song for 85th birthday treat in Wolverhampton
They're known as the D-Day Darlings – and this trio took an audience back to the 1940s when they played a special concert in Wolverhampton.
The group travelled to the city to appear at Catherine Woodall's 85th birthday party.
Singers Kate Ashby, Laura Clinton and Stacey Wood – who tour the country singing wartime classics – entertained a packed room with songs such as White Cliffs of Dover, There Will Always Be An England, and Don't Sit Under The Apple Tree.
Mrs Woodall's daughter, Julia Fish, booked the act for her mother's birthday and invited her neighbours to enjoy the private performance at the Wombrook Court retirement complex in Wombourne. She said: "Mum had seen them previously and thought it would be wonderful if other people in the retirement apartments could see them too.
"Most of them are in their 80s so were children when the Second World War was taking place and it brought back a lot of memories.
"There was loads of flag waving and they were sharing all their stories.
"We were very lucky that they came because normally they play out to packed audiences at big venues.
"But mum decided it was worth the price so we booked them
"Everyone had a tremendous night and it was really enjoyable."
