Aston Villa blog: Three points against Blackburn could trigger promotion push

Before I move onto this week's game I'd just like to have a final word on the derby last week - specifically Gary Rowett, writes Justin Hawthorne.

Before I start I will add that despite being the manager of our fiercest rivals I do have a lot of respect for the job he has done in the circumstances he has had to work in. However, his antics walking off the pitch gesturing to the villa fans and his words in the post-game interviews made me laugh.

It was an attempt to try and dismiss any notion that he was ever a Villa fan and to really put himself in the Birmingham City fans' good books, but all it did was make him look very foolish and petty.

When asked about the money spent on the Villa team he said he would rather have committed players than expensive ones. Well let's hope he never has a job with a big budget then, I'm sure he wouldn't turn down £50-60 million were it to come his way.

Anyway, on to the next game and Blackburn are in town this week after a poor start to their season. I'm hoping that this will be another three points to keep our unbeaten run going, and a return of 11 points from 15 after this weekend could really see us starting the push for the upper reaches of the table.

With the returning Jack Grealish and Gabby Agbonlahor now showing signs of life, we really have a squad that looks great going forward. With January just around the corner, belying any injuries, I think we'll only really be looking to bolster our midfield.

Whilst the Mile Jedinak and Gary Gardner axis is looking more and more promising as the weeks progress, I think we missed some energy and bit of creativity in that part of the pitch. By filling this gap, Bruce could turn us from a solid Championship team to an exceptional one.

It also looks like Elphick will also have to do with a place on the bench following James Chester's and Nathan Baker's partnership proving a good one, I've been slightly disappointed with him so far, so maybe watching from the bench for a couple of weeks will give him the motivation to get back in and lead like we all know he can.

In terms of a result against Blackburn, I think we'll prove too much for them at home, 3-0 with Kodjia to continue his good goalscoring record. If things go our way, it might even end up being a drubbing.
