Burke Brothers has been awarded £50,000 through the Green Shoots Fund towards the project.

The firm at the Burke Bros Trading Estate in Fox's Lane is to transform part of its former open space containerised storage facilities to create the modern and purpose built self-access storage rooms.

The new facility will be split level and on two floors with the secure and well lit self-storage rooms to be available from late June.

The company bosses have been working with the planners, designers and contractors in preparation for the start of the big refurbishment with work beginning this month.

Accredited by the leading industry authorities and having successfully moved thousands of families and businesses around the UK and internationally, Burke Brothers Moving Group has been storing customers' personal belonging, house hold goods, business archives and office furniture for more than 33 years.

The new project follows increasing demand for storage units, where personal and business customers can come and go as they please, in the city.

The family-owned business, which also runs a vehicle breakdown service, plans to create new jobs to handle the new business

Managing director Gary Burke said: "This is a very exciting time in the expansion of our business, because for many years we have provided the only containerised storage in Wolverhampton, plus free standing storage and archive storage, but now we are bolting on self-access storage to meet all individual and business needs."

Director Chris Burke added: "The new facilities will have free car parking spaces, large loading bays, trolleys, pallet trucks and fork lifts, all available to make moving items in really easy. The secure rooms will be located off wide bright corridors with room sizes ranging from large lockers at 10 sq ft to rooms of 50 or 120 sq ft at a time. The customers will be given the keys to their own dedicated rooms and they'll have easy access."

Another big part of the investment is the strengthened security measures with 24-hour security including CCTV monitoring, strong perimeter fencing and secure gates.

"Customers, domestic or business related, will be able to store from seven days up to as long as they like. Our fully manned reception will offer advice and guidance and take care of all the customers' needs, including accepting deliveries on customers' behalf, plus enable customers to purchase all the packing materials they'll ever need, as we already carry a comprehensive stock of packing items for our removals services," explained Gary Burke

"Since we already have an existing fleet of removals vans, large and small, and an experienced and professional team of removers and packing specialists, the customer can also arrange to use these services to easily move all their items from their location to ours," added Chris Burke.

The space will be suitable for anything from office equipment, archive files, sports equipment, studio flat content and up to house contents, enabling the residents and businesses of Wolverhampton to store items between their house or office moves, de-clutter offices, spare rooms, garages, and even their garden shed.
