Fans shun match over ticket price
Wolves fans voted with their feet over the £41 ticket charge to watch the Carling Cup tie at Old Trafford last night.
According to Manchester United, only 1,545 Wolves fans were in the crowd of 51,160. Wolves had been given an away ticket allocation of 5,708.
Wolves fans had reacted angrily to the ticket price and, with the match also screened live on Sky, the majority stayed at home.
The fact that Albion fans only paid £10 to see their side play Arsenal at The Emirates on Tuesday only fuelled the anger of some supporters.
Steve Bishop, Wolves Supporters Association Cannock branch secretary said they would normally have expected to taken two or three coaches but only took one at that was just half full.
He said: "The price is outrageous for a Carling Cup game. A lot of people decided not to go."
Wolves spokesman Matt Grayson denied that Wolves had agreed to the high prices to rake in money and chief executive Jez Moxey said earlier this week that United could justify the price because of the high demand for tickets.
And, while the lack of fans may have been a blow for the team, the fact that there were 50,000-plus in the stadium has swelled the Wolves coffers by around £500,000.
