Saville's pledge for English title

Steve Saville has pledged to turn a bad year on it's head by lifting the English title on home soil at Wolverhampton Civic Hall on September 18.

'The Wednesfield Bomber' and reigning Midland champion faces the biggest fight of his career - never before has the 32-year-old fought for a crown of such magnitude.

But if the main event can match his previous title-winning effort last November at the Civic - Saville's seventh round knockout of Baz Carey is up for the Midland Boxing Council's Fight of the Year award next month - fight fans will go home happy.

And the big-punching lightweight has endured some awful luck in 2009, not least when his personal gym at the back of his house went up in flames 13 days ago.

After the story was first told in the Express & Star, offers of help soon came forward.

He said: "The response has been fantastic. The Village Hotel on Junction 10 gave me a free membership so I could do my fitness work there, while Wolverhampton Boxing Club literally handed me the keys so I could do my pad-work.

"Now I will repay them with the English title, the situation has only made me hungrier. "
