Youngsters at Netherbrook Primary School, in Chester Road, have been taking part in an interactive learning event with a theatre company which staged a UFO landing in the school grounds.

The Sideways Theatre Company is working with pupils aged between three and 11 to inspire creative writing.

It started with the alien landing in the school gardens before the school was invaded by a number of specialists - including scientists, military men and the FBI.

The different characters are working with different age groups as part of the project to improve writing skills.

Literacy co-ordinator Helen Nock said: 'After the alien landed, the children were taken to see him in the school sick bay.

"They have been having so much fun and they have all made him some get well cards.

"The interactive sessions with the actors are part of an experimental learning project we are running after being awarded £4,000 for the Creative Partnership."
