Wolverhampton MP Pat McFadden became a father for the first time today after his partner gave birth to a "beautiful baby boy".

The 44-year-old said he was very happy after his partner of two-and-a-half years, Marianna, gave birth to a boy weighing almost 8lb at 6.30am in University College Hospital, London.

"We are over the moon, it's just fantastic, and he's a beautiful baby boy," he said.

"We are overjoyed to be parents, but we haven't got a name yet."

It emerged in March that Mr McFadden, Labour MP for Wolverhampton South-East, was going to become a dad after he told the Express & Star he was missing a demo against his reforms of Royal Mail because he had to attend Marianna's scan.
