Countdown begins to crunch clash

Kidderminster manager Mark Yates is fully focussed on sealing a place in the play-off's as the countdown begins to a pivotal trip to Stevenage.

Harriers go to Broadhall Way tomorrow night and the stakes could not be higher for either side, in their last-but-one game of the season.

The mathematics are relatively simple, if Harriers win their place in the top five is guaranteed - and at the expense of their hosts.

If they lose, they would be dumped out of the picture all together four days before the season ends against Kettering at Aggborough.

With a draw, it would go to the last game of the season for both sides - with Graham Westley's side travelling to mid-table Mansfield on the final day.

Both sides drew on Saturday, Harriers fighting back at third-placed Histon to grab a draw through Keith Lowe's equaliser, while Stevenage played out a goalless draw against fourth-placed Torquay.

So it's as you were for both sides, but sixth-placed Boro are running of games to catch Harriers.

All promises a cagey affair in Hertfordshire, one that Yates and his charges do not dare lose.

He said: "We don't want to go to one of our play-off rivals to just roll over - and we won't. It's going to be a tough game, we know that. But it's two teams who try to play football and it's got the makings of a good game."

A blow for Harriers is the injury suffered to skipper Mark Creighton, who hobbled off at Histon after just 19 minutes.

Luke Jones stepped up from the bench to partner Martin Riley in central defence, with Yates confirming that the former Blackburn centre-half will start if Creighton doesn't make it.

The manager added: "We'll see how Mark is. We need everyone available, but if he's not then Luke was outstanding when he came on, alongside Martin."
