Brunt appeals to angry Baggies

Albion winger Chris Brunt has appealed to angry fans to stick with the team for the vital final weeks of the Premier League season.

Brunt praised the Hawthorns faithful and insisted they still have a vital role to play in the Baggies' fight for top-flight survival.

There were more murmurings of discontent as Tony Mowbray's men lost 3-1 to Arsenal on Tuesday after a defensive horror show, although supporters stopped short of full-scale booing.

Brunt, who struck the opening goal against the Gunners, urges the Albion faithful to stick by them.

He said: "The fans have been great all season for us. This is as frustrating for us as it is for them, because none of us want to go back to the Championship.

"But it is a lot easier when you're sat in the stand watching and it's harder when you're out there playing because Arsenal are a great team.

"They are a Champions League team and they showed the quality they had in their squad by being able to rest a few people.

"The fans just need to keep behind us and keep believing. The home games coming up are potentially winnable ones, but we need to tighten up at the back and defend our box better.

"If we do that hopefully we can get points."

The defeat to Arsene Wenger's side left Albion without a win in eight games and rooted to the foot of the Premier League table.

To make matters worse, victories for Hull and Stoke and a draw for Blackburn worsened the Baggies' plight.
