Former Albion striker Geoff Horsfield is training with Walsall, although boss Jimmy Mullen insists he has no plans to sign him.
The 34-year-old has been without a club since leaving Sheffield United in the summer, despite having a trial with Kettering Town, so he has now begun training with the Saddlers.
Horsfield knows first team coach John Schofield, who he worked with on loan at Scunthorpe last season, and asked Schofield if he join the squad.
Mullen said: "Geoff lives just up the road in Lichfield and he has been doing nothing. He asked John if he could come and do some training because he was sick of going to the gym on his own.
"He has got a hobby where he builds houses, that is his trade away from football. He has had a few offers to go to Conference clubs and abroad but he loves living in Lichfield and he has got fed up training on his own.
When pressed on whether he would be interested in signing the former Baggie, Mullen refused to comment. He is known to be in the market for another striker.
He said: "I have not seen Geoff play for 18 months so I cannot comment. He asked if he could come in and do some training with us and that is all that it is."
If any move for Horsefield did materialise the striker would not command a fee but there is money available for Mullen to make loan signings, although he ruled out any imminent moves.
He said: "At the moment, touch wood, I have got 18 outfield players chomping on the bit and while that remains the case I am happy."
Though has yet to see Horsefield in action, Mullen has watched captain Stephen Hughes and Anthony Gerrard train without problems this week.
Hughes has recovered from his calf injury and Gerrard from the blow to the head he suffered in the win at Bristol Rovers last Saturday.
They are both expected to travel to Brighton for the League One clash at the Withdean on Saturday, leaving Mullen with a selection poser.
