Initial reports suggested it was a failed drive-by shooting but police today said they did not believe a car was used and that it was an air gun which had caused damage to a glass pane at a bus stop in Caldmore Green.

Businesses in the area, frustrated by a number of incidents, called a private emergency meeting last night to discuss what could be done to tackle crime.Caldmore Traders Association (CTA) chairman Ali Mahmood and ward councillor Mohammed Arif called the meeting and d invited police and ward councillors to the Green Centre in West Bromwich Road.

Mr Mahmood said: "Gun crime or any for of criminal activity is not welcome and we at CTA will be working with the police, Walsall Council, street champions and the relevant partners to remove it." Shopkeepers were evacuated from stores along Caldmore Green as police sealed off two areas along the road. Witnesses described how a man waiting at the bus stop had been shot at but that they had "just missed him".
