Taxi strike to hit city
Taxi drivers are going on strike tonight and tomorrow in Wolverhampton for the second time in a month.
All 105 black cabs will stop working between midnight tonight and 6am, and then from 4pm tomorrow until 6am on Sunday.
The Taxi Drivers Association is unhappy about drivers from outside the city coming in to "steal" trade, as well as the cost of the licences, and states there is "no option" but to strike.
It follows strike action four weeks ago which brought large crowds onto streets attempting to find a way home.
Shiva Misra, spokesman for the association, said: "Since the last strike we have had a series of meetings with the council, and are still unhappy with the outcome and feel that nothing has changed."
"The decision was made at lunchtime today because the group feels there has not been a positive resolution to any of the meetings," he added.
The city council today condemned the strike. Spokesman Tim Clark said: "We would urge anyone planning to come into the city centre this evening or tomorrow to make sure they have arrangements in place to get home safely."
