Memorial to legend Jack
Oldbury's famous son Jack Judge, who penned the world famous song It's A Long Way To Tipperary, is to be immortalised at the town's bus station.
Judge is set to follow in the footsteps of West Bromwich-born movie legend Madeleine Carroll and have a permanent tribute raised in his honour.
Music hall entertainer Judge, who lived his entire life in the town, wrote a number of First World War marching songs.
It follows calls from local historian and Express & Star columnist Carl Chinn to have more memorials erected to famous icons from Birmingham and the Black Country.
Last week a £17,000 commemorative stone was unveiled marking the achievements of Madeleine Carroll. Today is the 101st anniversary of the birth of the West Bromwich-born Hollywood actress.
Although detailed plans are yet to be drawn up, Sandwell Council has confirmed it will house a tribute to Judge at the bus station in Halesowen Street.
Sandwell's cabinet member for regeneration and transport Councillor Bob Badham said: "The council is keen to commemorate him in his home town and is working on plans for a fitting and permanent memorial to him in order to help tell his story.
"There is already a Jack Judge commemorative bench outside the Council House. We now hope to incorporate a memorial in plans to redevelop the site of Oldbury bus station in the town centre. Firm proposals are still being drawn up."
